Step-by-step USAF installation guide Win 10

This a complete installation guide which absolutely works as of June 2022.

OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 19043)

Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz

Memory: 32768MB RAM

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

DirectX: DirectX 12

Download the iso from myabandonware website Link or from google drive Link

Run Setup.exe and install the game to DEFAULT destination: C:\Program Files\ Jane's Combat Simulations\USAF

If Setup.exe doesn't launch it is very likely that some other process is blocking it. Do the following:

Launch Task manager
Right click on the Setup.exe process and click "go to details" (or find it on details tab
Right click against and select "Analyze wait chain". You will see a pop-up with processes that are blocking the install. Kill them (or quit the applications).

The patch should install without problems.

The mod db page says it's outdated, but the game didn't work without it for me.

Unzip JUTPWSS.zip to the game's directory (overwrite: yes).

Right click on the USAF.exe, click compatibility tab and select there:

Everything else is DESELECTED, including Compatibility Mode.

Congratulations! You have installed the USAF game. But the game will have the resolution only up to 1240 x 960.

But we want to play the game in high resolution, right?! So let's do it.

First, download the current version of WineD3D from here: https://fdossena.com/?p=wined3d/index.frag

Extract wined3d.dll and ddraw.dll into the USAF folder.

Almost there.

Now launch USAFConfig.exe, select DirectDraw HAL and click test.

That's it, now you can have resolution up to 1920 x 1080 in your USAF game.
